The Election Commission, led by Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar, is planning to visit Bihar on October 4 and 5 to review preparedness for the Assembly elections, officials said on Saturday.
The Tribune had reported on September 18 that the Assembly elections were likely to be conducted in the first fortnight of November, while the schedule could be announced in the first week of October.
Apart from CEC Gyanesh Kumar, the Election Commission comprises Election Commissioners SS Sandhu and Vivek Joshi.
A meeting of election observers is scheduled to be held in Delhi on October 3, sources said. “The elections are likely to kick-start around a week after the Chhath Pooja celebrations, which will be over on October 28, and expected to be wrapped up in three phases,” sources said.
The tenure of the 243-member Assembly ends on November 22. In 2020 as well, the state elections were held in three phases on October 28, November 3 and November 7. The results were declared on November 10.
