The Ministry of Education has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) to instruct their schools to screen ‘Chalo Jeete Hain’, a short film inspired by the childhood experiences of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Released in 2018, the film is based on formative incidents from the early life of the Prime Minister and carries the tagline “Modi Ka Bachpan”. The film has also received a National Award.

As per the directive, schools are to screen the film between September 16 and October 2.

“It will help young learners to reflect on themes of character, service, and responsibility. The film can also serve as a case study for moral reasoning, and support the goals of social-emotional learning, developing empathy, self-reflection, critical thinking, and inspiration,” the official communication stated.

The Education ministry is implementing an experiential learning programme called ‘Prerana’. It said the programme is based on “9 core human values: Swabhiman aur Vinay; Shaurya aur Sahas; Parishram aur Samarpan; Satyanishtha aur Shuchita; Karuna aur Seva; Navachar aur Jigyasa; Vividhta aur Ekta; Shraddha aur Vishwas; Swatantrata aur Kartavya.”

“Prerana programme is being conducted from the historic Vernacular School of Vadnagar, Gujarat, established in 1888, the very institution where Prime Minister Narendra Modi began his educational journey,” it stated.

The ministry said in order to promote experiential learning, Prerana employs tools such as storytelling, value-based sessions, indigenous games, hands-on activities, and audio-visual learning.

“Film screenings, in particular, help bring abstract values, life stories, historical contexts, ethical dilemmas, and human emotions to life, allowing participants to witness examples of values in action. A key film regularly featured in Prerana is Chalo Jeete Hain,” the ministry said.
