Less than 10 months after he quit the BJP over denial of party ticket and joined the Congress, former Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar on Thursday rejoined the saffron family, saying he had full faith that Narendra Modi would be Prime Minister again.
Shettar, 68, had quit the BJP in April 2023 ahead of state polls after the party denied him a ticket from Hubbali-Dharwad.
The six-time MLA had then cited “disrespect” while moving to the Congress, where he contested the state elections and lost.
Shettar’s homecoming happened today in the presence of former Karnataka chief BS Yediyurappa and state BJP president BS Vijayendra.
Shettar is a tall Lingayat leader from north Karnataka and is very close to former CM Yediyurappa.
Sources said former Deputy Chief Minister Laxman Savadi, who too had quit the BJP for the Congress, could also come back to the saffron fold soon.
“I am rejoining with the belief that Narendra Modi ji has to become PM again,” said Shettar, who was made an MLC by the Congress in Karnataka after he lost the Assembly poll.
