KK Mohammed, the archaeologist who stated that there were remains of a temple over which Babri mosque had been built, has now said Muslims should hand over Gyanvapi and Shahi Idgah mosques to Hindus.

Speaking to reporters, Mohammed said handing over the mosques is the only lasting solution to this issue. “The mosque has no connection with Prophet Mummad, it is just another place of worship for them. All the religious groups should hand over these structures to the Hindu community. Kashi, Mathura and Ayodhya are very important for Hindus as they depict Lord Shiva, Lord Krishna and Lord Rama,” he said.

He said Gyanvapi was a Hindu structure. “Kashi Vishwanath was destroyed and Gyanvapi mosque was built over it,” he said.

“There should not be unfavourable demands for razing mosques. However, exceptions should be made for the Gyanvapi and Mathura. It has been made for Ayodhya,” Mohammad said.

He was invited for the consecration ceremony but he could not attend due to health issues.
