‘Gopi bahu in Prayagraj’: Social media amused as woman video-calls husband, dips phone in Sangam to give him ‘snan’

A woman who travelled to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh Mela but without her husband found a unique way to include him in the sacred ritual.

A viral video shows the woman, dressed in a saree, standing in the river while on a video call with her husband. To ensure he also received blessings, she repeatedly dipped her mobile phone into the holy waters—a moment that left social media users amused.

Social media users joked, “Gopi bahu in Prayagraj” and “The phone got Moksha, not the person.” Others praised the woman’s dedication, saying, “Love was more important than the mobile, she can buy another phone, but not another husband.”

Meanwhile, a unique startup idea has gone viral. A man named Deepak Goyal, from Prayagraj, has introduced a ‘digital snan’ (virtual holy dip) service, allowing devotees who cannot attend the Kumbh Mela in person to send their photos via WhatsApp.

According to a viral video, Goyal’s business, Prayag Enterprises, prints the devotees’ photos and dips them in the holy waters of Sangam on their behalf. The service costs Rs 1,100 and guarantees the ritual’s completion within 24 hours. Social media users had mixed reactions, with some calling it the “Next Unicorn Company”, while others found it amusing.

The Uttar Pradesh government has announced that over 60 crore devotees have already taken a holy dip at Triveni Sangam during the 2025 Maha Kumbh Mela.
