The passing of Ratan Tata will be remembered as a sad day in the history of our country. The nation has lost an illustrious son known for his self-effacing humility, personal dignity and high ethical standards, which have won him universal respect and admiration.

He was much more than a business icon and a man of wealth. His distinction was defined by his humanity demonstrated in the work of several charities that he nurtured and founded during his life.

With the courage to speak truth to power, he will forever remain a role model for those seeking leadership and trust of the community.

Having had the privilege of knowing him since the 80s, I had the opportunity of visiting him in Mumbai at his residence a few weeks ago to pay my respects, not knowing then that these were my last respects to an illustrious friend and an illustrious son of India.

May the Lord Almighty rest his soul in peace.
