Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsWith Assembly elections in Bihar around the corner, the political fight between the NDA and INDIA bloc has turned increasingly bitter. The latest flashpoint is an AI-generated video shared by the Congress, portraying Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a satirical dream sequence with his late mother. The clip, released by the party’s Bihar unit on X, has sparked a fierce exchange between Congress and BJP leaders.
The video shows a Modi lookalike going to bed after boasting of “vote theft” before being confronted in his dream by a woman resembling his mother, who admonishes him for allegedly misusing her name for political mileage. The caption on the post read, “Ma appears in Sahab’s dreams. Watch the interesting dialogue.”
The BJP condemned the video, accusing the Congress of lowering political discourse. Party spokesperson Shehzad Poonawala alleged the clip was made at Rahul Gandhi’s behest, claiming it crossed “all limits of decency” and showed the opposition had no remorse for past personal attacks.
“Shameful! Congress has once again hit a new low by mocking PM @narendramodi ji and his late mother through an AI-generated video. This isn’t politics — this is filth. Under Rahul Gandhi’s failed leadership, Congress has reduced itself to a circus of hate and cheap stunts. No vision. No values. No dignity. This repeat offence is not just an insult to a mother’s memory, but a mirror to Congress’ rotten mindset and the depths they can sink to in their greed for power,” said Union Minister of Consumer Affairs Prahlad Joshi, in a post on X.
Reacting on the AI video, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs, Kiren Rijiju said that there is a limit to falling into inhumanity. “Congress has lost its credibility and the trust of the people. No wonder the Congress party is continuously losing elections. They are not learning any lessons even from being rejected by the public,” he said.
Echoing a similar sentiment, senior BJP leader Anurag Thakur said the RJD and Congress had stooped to new lows in politics by mocking the late mother of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Speaking to reporters in Bihar, Thakur remarked that such remarks were “disgusting and shameful” and predicted that the people of the state would punish the two parties with a resounding defeat in the upcoming assembly elections. He added that Biharis would not forgive leaders who resorted to such insults and would deliver a strong response at the ballot box.
Congress, however, stood its ground. Party leader Pawan Khera dismissed the BJP’s charges, asking where the supposed disrespect was. He argued that the mother’s role in the video was simply that of guiding her child, and said if the Prime Minister found that insulting, it was his personal interpretation.
“Modi cannot run a ‘touch me not’ politics. In public life, he must be open to scrutiny, satire, even a message disguised as advice,” Khera said, stressing that the intent was not mockery but “naseehat”, parental counsel.
This is not the first such controversy. Only last month, the Congress faced flak after a local supporter allegedly used offensive language about Modi’s mother during a ‘Voter Adhikar’ rally.
BJP leaders argue the AI video shows a repeated pattern of Congress resorting to personal attacks, while the opposition insists the ruling party is manufacturing outrage to distract from governance failures.
