An Indian student from Hyderabad was shot dead in Texas, United States, in the early hours of Saturday, former Telangana Minister and BRS MLA T Harish Rao said.

The victim, identified as Chandrashekar Pole, was reportedly working part-time at a gas station in Denton, Texas, when unidentified assailants opened fire. Pole, who hailed from Nagar Kurnool district in Telangana, had completed his Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in India before travelling to the US for higher studies.

Describing the incident as “heart-wrenching”, Harish Rao said on X that the student’s family was devastated. “The pain that the parents are going through, knowing that their son, who they believed would reach great heights, is no more, is unimaginable,” he said.

He urged both the Telangana Government and the Centre to coordinate with US authorities and make immediate arrangements to bring Pole’s mortal remains back to India.

The local police in Texas are investigating the shooting, though details about the motive or the suspects remain unclear.
