IMD forecasts rain in North-West, North-East

Heatwave conditions are likely to persist in parts of Bihar and West Bengal until May 15, while rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is expected to continue over North-West India until Monday, and over West and Central India until May 13, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

North-East is also forecast to receive heavy rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning through May 15.

The IMD has also predicted that the southwest monsoon will advance into the South Andaman Sea, parts of the Southeast Bay of Bengal and the Nicobar Islands around May 13.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and northeast Rajasthan are expected to receive light rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning on May 12 due to an active western disturbance affecting northern India. As a result of this system, Delhi is likely to experience a dip in daytime temperatures and cooler nights.

According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), the number of heatwave days is likely to increase by up to 7-8 days in northern and western India, including Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Gujarat and Rajasthan.
