India, US stress ‘trade, tech & talent’ to shape bilateral ties
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri on a visit to the US met with Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and discussed various aspects of the India-US relationship.
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said today “they agreed that technology, trade and talent will shape the India-US partnership in the 21st century”. They both reaffirmed commitment to further strengthening the India-US comprehensive global strategic partnership. The Foreign Secretary visited the US from May 27-29.
Approve student visas on merit, says MEA
* On the issue of US holding back visa appointments for students, the Ministry of External Affairs has said all applications submitted by Indian students should be considered on their merit so that “our students can join their universities in America on time”
* MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiwal said all developments regarding visa matters, were being closely followed and monitored. There are some 3.30 lakhs Indian students in the US

Jaiswal said Misri also led a delegation comprising the Deputy National Security Adivser for the inter-agency discussions on India-US COMPACT (Catalysing Opportunities for Military Partnership, Accelerated Commerce & Technology).
The focus was on advancing the multi-sector COMPACT initiative for the 21st century. This meeting happened in the White House. The meeting also focused on implementing the ‘Trust’ initiative, which is about critical minerals and emerging technology partnerships. They also discussed cooperation in area of defence and energy domains, as well as strengthening the Quad, Jaiswal said.
Earlier on May 27, Misri met the US State Department Under Secretary in the US Department of Commerce. The Indian Embassy in the US had posted on X saying Misri met Jeffrey Kessler.
