India's education system is undergoing transformation after decades: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday addressed a post-budget webinar, highlighting the government's emphasis on investing in people, the economy, and innovation as key to a developed India.

He stated that investment in people rests on three pillars: education, skills, and health.

"India's education system is undergoing a transformation after decades. The National Education Policy (NEP), expansion of Indian Institutes of Technologies (IITs), integration of technology with education, including the use of AI and digitisation of textbooks, are some of the steps taken by the government. Today, learning materials are available in 22 Indian languages," Modi said.

He added that India's education system now meets the requirements of the 21st century.

Since 2014, 30 million youths have received skill training, the Prime Minister said, adding that 1,000 ITIs will be upgraded and five Centers of Excellence will be established.

"Youth should be trained to meet the requirements of our industries. We are ensuring that our youth compete at a global level. Industries and educational institutions should understand each other's requirements and fulfill them. We have launched the PM Internship Scheme to provide new opportunities to youth," Modi said.

Speaking on the healthcare sector, the Prime Minister said that 75,000 medical seats will be added over the next five years.

"This year's budget announced the addition of 10,000 medical seats with a target of adding 75,000 seats in five years. The telemedicine facility is being expanded. Through day-care cancer centers and digital healthcare infrastructure, we want to bring healthcare to the last mile," he said.
