Jairam Ramesh gives ‘breach of privilege’ notice against Kiren Rijiju, JP Nadda in Rajya Sabha
The chief whip of the Congress in the Rajya Sabha, Jairam Ramesh, on Monday gave a notice on the question of breach of privilege against Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and BJP chief JP Nadda, accusing them of making “blatantly false statements” on the floor of the Rajya Sabha on Monday morning.
In his notice, submitted to the Rajya Sabha Secretary General, Jairam Ramesh said that as soon as the House assembled for the day, Kiren Rijiju attributed certain statements to Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar, who has since refuted having made any of the said remarks as “false and derogatory.”
He levelled the same allegation against JP Nadda, the Leader of the House, Ramesh said that the statements of Nadda and Rijiju, therefore, constitute a blatant attempt to mislead the House and make for a question of breach of privilege and contempt of the House.
The Rajya Sabha was adjourned multiple times during the day and finally until tomorrow over the ruling BJP members accusing Shiva Kumar of saying that the Constitution can be changed.
No business could be transacted in the Council of States today.
The Treasury side attributed these remarks to Shivakumar and attacked the Congress party for granting 4 per cent reservation to Muslims in government contracts in Karnataka, which is ruled by the grand old party.
