External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has reached out to South Korea as a part of the offensive to apprise the non-permanent members of the UN Security Council about the Pahalgam terror attack and its linkages with Pakistan.

South Korea was the ninth non-permanent UNSC member that India contacted. The UNSC has 10 non-permanent members, with a two-year term. Pakistan is one of them. Besides South Korea, New Delhi has reached out to Algeria, Denmark, Greece, Guyana, Panama, Sierra Leone, Slovenia and Somalia.

The five permanent members of the UNSC are the US, UK, France, China and Russia. Barring China, others have been directly contacted and informed about the attack.

Today Jaishankar spoke to his South Korean counterpart Cho Tae-yul and is understood to have conveyed India’s policy of “zero tolerance” towards terrorists.

The EAM has already spoken to his counterparts from eight other non-permanent UNSC members.

On Thursday, Jaishankar posted on X, “Spoke with (Tae-yul) of South Korea this morning. Thanked him for RoK’s support and solidarity in light of the Pahalgam terror attack. Underlined the need to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations.”

Several world leaders, including US president Donald Trump, France's president Emmanuel Macron, Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Egypt's president Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II and Italy's PM Giorgia Meloni, had earlier called up PM Narendra Modi to condemn the attack.
