This will be the second high-profile visit from India in recent weeks, following National Security Advisor Ajit Doval’s visit to Russia last week.

Sources have confirmed Jaishankar’s visit, which—along with Doval’s visit—is aimed at setting the stage for the annual leaders’ summit. Russian President Vladimir Putin is expected to visit India later this year for talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, with both sides looking to further strengthen their long-standing bilateral ties.

Meanwhile, the United States has imposed punitive tariffs on India, citing its continued engagement with Russia, particularly the purchase of crude oil from Moscow.
