Jaishankar held a phone conversation with Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha, with both sides reaffirming their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties while discussing ongoing efforts toward peace in the Ukraine-Russia conflict.
The conversation was held on Thursday evening.
Dr. Jaishankar said the talks covered “bilateral cooperation as well as the Ukraine conflict,” reiterating that India supports “an early end to this conflict and the establishment of an enduring peace”.
Foreign Minister Sybiha, in a post on X, said the conversation also focused on advancing the Ukraine–India partnership and implementing agreements reached earlier between President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
He briefed Dr. Jaishankar on the battlefield situation and Ukraine’s efforts to achieve what he termed a “just peace”, expressing hope that India would use its “authoritative voice and active role” in supporting the full cessation of hostilities and broader international peace initiatives.
The two ministers also agreed to meet in person during the upcoming high-level week of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.
According to Sybiha, discussions will continue on expanding cooperation across political dialogue, high-level exchanges, economic collaboration, technology, and other areas of mutual interest.
