After Congress leader Shashi Tharoor lauded the BJP win in Thiruvananthapuram MC today, his colleague and party general secretary organisation KC Venugopal said, “The BJP’s media spin projecting a 'surge' in the Kerala local body elections is laughable.”

Venugopal said in the final results, NDA has zero district panchayats, zero block panchayats, remains stuck at two municipalities and was projecting one corporation as a "breakthrough". “And the story coming from this election is that the people of Kerala quickly got disillusioned with the BJP. They projected their 2024 Thrissur Lok Sabha victory also as a win, and today the people have given the UDF a thumping victory in the corporation. They also lost 5 per cent vote share from their 2024 Lok Sabha election performance. And as for 'growth', they managed to gain seven gram panchayats since the last elections,” said Venugopal.

He said the verdict Kerala actually delivered was unmistakable: “A sweeping Congress-led UDF mandate across every tier.”

He said even in Thiruvananthapuram, where the NDA claimed a “breakthrough”, the data from all parts of Trivandrum outside the corporation shows a wipeout. — TNS
