Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday made a strong pitch for Lord Ram as a deity revered and worshipped around the globe and Ramayana being an Epic of influence for various cultures spanning nations and regions.

“Conversations related to Lord Ram, Ma Sita and Ramayana are associated with the life of every single person. These are beyond the boundaries of time, societies, castes, religions and regions. Even in the toughest of times Ramayana set examples of sacrifice, unity and courage and remained a testament to the victory of love.

That is why it binds the whole of humanity to itself,” PM said after releasing six commemorative stamps on Ram Mandir and elements related to the temple which he said would serve as historical bridges to the future and communicate the majesty of the Ram Temple to upcoming generations.

At a time when the opposition leaders have accused the ruling BJP led by the PM of converting the January 22 Ram Mandir inauguration in Ayodhya into a political event, the prime minister today said Lord Ram transcended all these artificial barriers and Ramayama had globally remained a centre of attraction.

“Across countries and civilisations there has been a great enthusiasm about Ramayana. Today’s stamp releases reveal how Lord Ram, Ma Sita are seen with pride worldwide,” PM said.

He said the young generation of today will find it very interesting to watch how different countries have issued postal stamps dedicated to Lord Ram.

“America, Canada, Australia, Cambodia, the Czech Republic, Fiji, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, New Zealand, Thailand, Guyana, Singapore, and many other countries have, with a lot of affection, issued postal stamps on various aspects related to Lord Rama’s life,” the PM said stressing the global appeal of Lord Ram.

The PM said Lord Ram is as much of a great ideal worldwide as in India.

“Lord Ram’s deep influence, Ramayana’s great influence on cultures worldwide will be revealed by this album being released today. It will take people on a mini tour to the lives of Lord Ram and Ma Sita.,” PM said.

He recalled Maharishi’s Valmiki’s words that Lord Ram’s personality will live and flourish till there are mountains and rivers on the face of earth.

The PM was speaking after releasing six special postage stamps dedicated to Lord Ram and an album featuring stamps on Lord Ram issued by other countries.

“We all know the importance of postal stamps. They are not mere tickets. Postal stamps work as bridges to the future to communicate to the coming generations the historical events that have passed. When we send a letter to someone, we actually send a piece of history,” PM said.

He said postal stamps are miniatures of history.

“With today’s postal stamps youngsters will get an opportunity to know and learn about a lot. These stamps feature elements from the Ram Mandir which signal good wishes for the nation’s welfare, the image of the Sun which blesses the world to shine, the image of Saryu river which gives us the message to keep flowing. Nuances of the temple have been craftily embossed on these stamps,” PM said.
