Welcoming the Mauritian leader and his delegation, President Murmu said Mauritius held a special place in India’s ‘Neighbourhood First’ policy, its MAHASAGAR Vision and its wider commitment to the Global South.

The President noted that bilateral ties had recently been elevated to an “Enhanced Strategic Partnership”, reflecting the steady expansion of cooperation across sectors. She also welcomed India’s role in supporting Mauritius’ development priorities through a new Special Economic Package.

Murmu said projects under the package -- including hospitals, roads, port development, defence procurement and joint surveillance -- would boost infrastructure and positively impact the lives of Mauritian citizens in the years ahead. She also underlined growing cooperation in emerging areas such as digital technologies and space.

Both leaders agreed that the India-Mauritius relationship was unique, rooted in shared history, language, culture and values. Expressing confidence in Ramgoolam’s leadership, Murmu said the longstanding bilateral partnership would continue to strengthen in the future.

Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday met Dr Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Prime Minister of the Republic of Mauritius, in Delhi.
