MoD inks contracts for anti-tank missile platform, light vehicles

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) today signed a contract for procuring an anti-tank weapon-launching platform. Separately, 5,000 light vehicles will be procured from the Mahindra group.

These two contracts are valued at Rs 2,500 crore. This is the second major military contract in as many days. Yesterday, two private companies — Bharat Forge Limited and Tata Advanced System Limited — were given a contract for Rs 6,900 crore for the procurement of Advanced Towed Artillery Gun Systems (ATAGS) along with specialised gun-towing vehicles.

Today, the MoD inked a contract with Armoured Vehicle Nigam Limited – a public sector company — for the procurement of Nag Missile System (NAMIS). The platform is based on tank-track system and carries an anti-tank NAG missile.

The NAMIS weapon system, developed by Defence Research Development Laboratory of DRDO, will cost Rs 1,801 crore. It marks a significant milestone in the modernisation of the anti-tank capability of Mechanised Infantry, enhancing Indian Army’s operational readiness across a varied spectrum of operations.

NAMIS has a fire-and-forget anti-tank missile. It has a sighting system for enhanced firepower and lethality. The weapon system is set to transform the conduct of mechanised operation and offer operational advantage against the adversary.
