Nepal’s Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Thursday told Prime Minister Narendra Modi that holding elections would remain the “topmost priority” of her government, reflecting the aspirations of the youth for accountable, transparent and corruption-free governance. Modi assured Karki of India’s full support in Nepal's efforts towards restoring peace and stability.

Both the leaders held a telephone conversation for the first time during which Karki thanked Modi for his message of solidarity and conveyed greetings on his 75th birthday.

PM Modi, in turn, congratulated Karki on becoming the first woman to lead Nepal as Prime Minister, and expressed condolences over the recent loss of lives in the country’s youth movement. He also extended warm wishes to the people of Nepal on their National Day.

Modi also conveyed India’s readiness to continue working closely to further strengthen the special ties between the two countries and India’s full support to Nepal in its efforts towards restoring peace and stability, and for the progress of the people of Nepal.

Karki emphasised that Nepal and India’s historical and close ties would continue to be strengthened through multifaceted people-to-people exchanges. Both leaders pledged to carry forward the strong momentum of bilateral cooperation and partnership for the benefit of their peoples.
