Congress chief Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday extended his greetings to NASA astronaut Sunita Williams, who returned to Earth from International Space Station (ISS) after over nine months.

Williams’ parents and grandparents hail from India. Her family has roots in Jhulasan village in Gujarat.

"Welcome back to Earth, Sunita Williams!" wrote Kharge on X.

He said, "On behalf of the Indian National Congress, I extend our warmest felicitations and heartfelt good wishes upon your safe and successful return with NASA astronaut Butch Wilmore."

"Your remarkable resilience and outstanding commitment serve as a profound inspiration to space enthusiasts worldwide and is a testament to human accomplishments," he said.

The senior leader Kharge termed it as "momentous occasion" for India's scientific community including astronauts, scientists, space engineers and researchers.
