New Delhi, January 24
In a defiant response to the filing of an FIR against him and other Congress workers, party leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday dismissed concerns over legal actions and said he was not afraid of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma or the BJP government.
“They had booked me earlier. I was suspended from Parliament and had to vacate my house. But I was not scared, and they are free to register more FIRs against me. I’m not scared of RSS and the BJP,” he said, addressing a gathering during his Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam.
He accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Sarma of spreading hate. “India cannot be run on hate. It can be run on love only. My party is not against PM Modi, Shah or Sarma in person, but against the hatred in their heart,” he said.
Taking a swipe at Sarma, Rahul alleged that the Assam Government was being operated from New Delhi. Accusing the BJP-RSS of attempting to undermine the culture and traditions of Assam, Rahul said the Congress would not let such attacks occur. “The day your Chief Minister talks about Assam, Shah will dethrone him,” he said.
Kharge writes to Shah over ‘security threats’
Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge has written to Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the alleged security threats faced by Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra in Assam. This comes on the heels of the Assam Police pressing charges against several Congress leaders, including Rahul Gandhi, under various Sections of the Indian Penal Code for alleged violence and provocation.
