Parliament proceedings washed out amid anti-SIR protests

Parliamentary proceedings were washed out on Friday amid protests by the Opposition on the special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

While Rajya Sabha was adjourned for the day within an hour of assembling at 11 am amid unrelenting protests by the Congress-led Opposition, who rushed in the Well of the House, seeking a discussion on SIR, the Lok Sabha after witnessing a couple of adjournments, was finally adjourned for the day at 3 pm.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed dismay over the fact that the Private Members’ Bills, which are earmarked for introduction and discussion on every Friday, have not been taken up even once during the Monsoon session due to disruptions by the Opposition.

In the first three weeks of the Monsoon session, only two Bills have been passed in Lok Sabha, and even those were passed through voice vote.

The Opposition has disrupted the Parliamentary proceedings on issues ranging from Operation Sindoor and the subsequent sudden announcement of ceasefire as well as SIR in Bihar.
