Putin ally says he leaves for India for 'important' negotiations

Volodin, in a post, reiterated the importance of the Indo-Russian alliance stating the nations have a long-standing relation of trust and mutually beneficial cooperation

Vyacheslav Volodin, the chairman of Russia's State Duma, the lower house of parliament, said on Sunday that he was leaving for India for a series of 'important' talks.

"We will be in New Delhi by nightfall, important meetings and negotiations are planned tomorrow," Volodin, a close ally of President Vladimir Putin, said in a post on his Telegram messaging app.

"India is a strategic partner. We have long-standing relations of trust and mutually beneficial cooperation with it.

It is necessary to develop contacts in all areas."

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.

The Tribune has two sister publications, Punjabi Tribune (in Punjabi) and Dainik Tribune (in Hindi).
