Linking rising unemployment with alleged vote theft, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday accused PM Narendra Modi and the BJP of “destroying the future of India’s youth”.

In a post on X, Gandhi said the country was witnessing highest unemployment in 45 years, with jobs shrinking and recruitment systems collapsing under the weight of corruption and repeated cases of paper leaks.

“The biggest problem that India’s youth is facing today is unemployment and it is directly linked to vote theft. When a government does not come to power through the trust of the people, but by stealing elections, it has no intention to provide jobs, fix recruitment processes or safeguard the dreams of young Indians,” he stated.

Citing recent recruitment paper leaks in Dehradun and lathi-charge by the police on job aspirants in Patna, Gandhi said the Modi government had crushed the aspirations of young Indians.

“While the youth dreams big and works hard for their future, Modi is busy with PR, celebrity praise and serving profits of billionaires. Crushing the hopes of India’s youth has become the true identity of this government,” he alleged.

Without naming the Prime Minister, Gandhi also took a swipe at Modi’s recent birthday celebrations, calling them proof of “insensitivity” at a time when young Indians are battling despair and hopelessness.

He underlined that the struggle of the young generation was no longer limited to jobs, but had become a fight against electoral malpractice too. “India’s youth now realises that the real fight is not only for jobs, but against vote theft itself. Freeing India from unemployment and vote theft is today the highest form of patriotism,” Gandhi said.
