Chandrashekhar, a former Minister of State for IT and Electronics, fought and lost the Thiruvananthapuram Lok Sabha election against Congress leader Shashi Tharoor.

Chandrashekhar, 60, hails from Kerala and owns the state's biggest news channel Asianet.

He faces an uphill task of expanding the BJP in the state where the party won its first Lok Sabha election last year when actor Suresh Gopi was elected.
