“When are you going to take up the SIR issue for discussion? Please give us the date and time,” the Congress president and Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge  asked the chair. At the beginning of House proceedings, TMC leader Derek O’Brien also requested for the discussion, saying, “It is an important issue for us.”

As many as 18 notices were submitted in the Upper House for discussions on Bihar SIR, alleged atrocities Bengalis in other states, sudden resignation of former Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and rising racial attacks on Indians worldwide, among others.

However, Deputy Chairman Harivansh refused to allow the notices citing an earlier ruling of the chair. He requested the opposition parties to maintain order in the House for smooth conduct of the zero hour. The opposition parties, however, continued their protest following which the House was adjourned till noon.

The Rajya Sabha will resume discussion on Operation Sindoor at 12 pm.
