Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Thursday described the departed industrialist, Ratan Tata, as one who had “the courage of speaking the truth to the men in power”.
In a letter written to the Tata Sons chairman Chandrasekaran, Manmohan Singh said he was deeply saddened by the death of Ratan Tata, who was a “stalwart of the Indian industry”.

“He was much more than a business icon; his vision and humanity demonstrated in the work of the charities founded and nurtured during his life,” the Congress leader wrote. The former PM, who had also remained the Union Finance Minister and Reserve Bank of India Governor, said he had worked very closely with Tata on several occasions and had fond memories of those associations.
Ratan Tata (86,), the legendary former chairman of industrial behemoth Tata Sons, died in Mumbai on Wednesday night.
