China’s Ambassador to India Xu Feihong on Tuesday said on the basis of mutual understanding and trust, Beijing was ready to work with India to have a healthy bilateral relations.

Ambassador Xu said China and India were not rivals, but partners. “The two nations have many similarities,” said Xu, adding that a dialogue was continuing on the border issues through diplomatic channels.

“China and India are at critical stage of development,” Xu said, adding that a stable China-India relationship was the key to the region.

The remarks made by Ambassador Xu today came in the backdrop of Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson at Beijing Lin Jian having expressed reservations against the move of the Quad to have their first joint coast guard operation at sea.

Responding to queries on the move by Quad, Lin on September 23 said: “Cooperation between countries should be conducive to peace, stability and prosperity in the region, rather than focusing on forming exclusive groupings that undermine trust and cooperation among regional countries”.

On September 19, Ambassador Xu delivered the keynote address at the event hosted by ‘Centre for Global India Insights’.
