It is the responsibility of the state and local bodies to ensure proper treatment of sewage and industrial effluent before discharging these into water bodies or land, said MoS Raj Bhushan Choudhary in reply to a question by MP Satnam Singh Sandhu in the Rajya Sabha. Parliament was further told that 28 sewage treatment plants had been installed in Punjab while 15 more were being set up.

High-resolution aquifer mapping has been completed over 2,644 sq km area in Haryana to create detailed maps of underground water-bearing formation in the state, said MoS Raj Bhushan Choudhary, in reply to a query by MP Kiran Chaudhary.
