Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday gave a notice in the Rajya Sabha for a resolution to extend the President’s rule in Manipur by another six months from August 13 onwards.

The resolution was admitted, but could not be taken up for consideration due to protests by the Opposition over the ongoing special intensive revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Bihar.

Manipur was put under the President’s rule on February 13 this year after Chief Minister N Biren Singh resigned from his post following months of ethnic violence and political instability that started on May 3, 2023.
