Rijiju offers chadar at Ajmer shrine on PM Modi’s behalf
Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju on Saturday offered the ceremonial chadar at Ajmer Sharif Dargah during the ongoing urs, an annual commemoration of the death anniversary of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti.
The chadar was offered on behalf of PM Narendra Modi.
On Sunday, a chadar will be offered at the shrine on behalf of Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also.
Ajmer Sharif Deewan Zainul Abedin Ali Khan’s son Nasiruddin Chishti on Saturday said Modi sending a chadar to the dargah must be viewed as a positive sign. He said Modi’s gesture was in line with a lasting tradition followed by prime ministers.
He criticised AIMIM president Asaduddin Owaisi’s statement that the move would do no good at the time of Hindu side claims over select mosque sites.
“Owaisi’s statement is not appropriate. He can read the message of the Prime Minister which he sent with the chadar to know his views,” Chishti said.
