The Union Cabinet on Thursday approved the payment of productivity-linked bonus of 78 days for Rs 2028.57 crore to 11,72,240 Railways’ employees.

According to a government release, the decision was taken in recognition of the excellent performance by the Railways’ staff.

The bonus is given to eligible Railways’ employees is made each year before the Durga Puja/ Dasehra holidays. “The maximum amount payable per eligible employee is Rs 17,951 for 78 days," it said. The government said the performance of the Railways in 2023-24 was very good as it loaded a record cargo of 1588 mn tonnes and carried nearly 6.7 bn passengers.
