Noting that homebuyers were being defrauded across the country, the Supreme Court on Monday emphasised the need for a uniform builder-buyer agreement.

“Buyers are being defrauded by builders all across and that is why the need for uniformity now,” a Bench led by CJI Chandrachud said while hearing a PIL filed in 2021 by advocate Ashwini Upadhyay.

Upadhyay has contended that a model agreement was needed to ensure transparency and fairness and to restrain builders and agents from indulging in unfair and restrictive trade practices. The Bench posted the matter for further hearing on July 19.
