Siddaramaiah orders magisterial inquiry into Bengaluru stampede, announces compensation

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Wednesday ordered a magisterial inquiry into the Bengaluru stampede in which 11 people dead and 33 were injured outside Chinnaswamy stadium.

The CM said the number of people gathered for the RCB celebrations was beyond their expectations.

He said, “More than three lakh people came near Chinnaswamy stadium, and no one expected this crowd. Most of the deceased are youth. The government will provide Rs 10 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased.”

The CM said all injured are out of danger.

Siddaramaiah said, “The BJP is doing politics on the incident. I don't want to do politics. I don't want to defend the tragedy that has happened. Fifteen days’ time has been given for the magisterial inquiry.”

There is small gate at the stadium, and a large number of people gathered; they broke it leading to the stampede: the CM said, adding that the incident shouldn't have happened, and the government expresses grief over it.

The Karnataka government’s responsibility was to provide security, the rest the cricket association had to handle, Siddaramaiah said.
