In a statement issued on Friday, the SPF said it was aware of “speculation and false information circulating online” about the circumstances of Garg’s death and urged the public not to spread unverified claims.
“Based on preliminary investigations, the SPF does not suspect foul play,” the statement said, adding that a detailed probe was underway. Once completed, findings of the probe -- expected to take up to three more months -- will be submitted to the state coroner, who will decide whether to hold a coroner’s Inquiry.
The inquiry, a judicial fact-finding process to determine the cause and circumstances of death, will make its findings public upon conclusion.
The SPF also confirmed that, despite the ongoing investigation, it had on October 1 shared a copy of the autopsy report and preliminary findings with the High Commission of India in Singapore, following a formal request.
“The SPF is committed to conducting a thorough and professional investigation into the case, and this takes time,” the statement said, appealing for patience and understanding from all parties involved.
Garg, a celebrated Assamese singer and composer, passed away in Singapore earlier this month, leading to widespread shock and speculation on social media.
