Thane MACT awards Rs 46.3 Lakh compensation to accident victim

The Motor Accident Claims Tribunal (MACT) in Thane district, Maharashtra, has awarded a compensation of Rs 46.3 lakh to Mayur Raosaheb Kadam, who sustained serious injuries in an accident involving a container truck.

On December 3, MACT member SN Shah directed the owner of the container truck, Nabool Gulamali Shaikh and IFFCO Tokio General Insurance Co Ltd to pay the compensation, along with 8 per cent interest from the date of filing the petition until the payment is made.

The incident occurred on January 5, 2018, when Kadam, then 24 years old, was riding his two-wheeler on his way home in Palghar. A speeding container truck rammed into him from behind, causing severe injuries. Kadam, who suffered partial disability due to the accident, filed the petition under Section 166 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, seeking fair compensation.

After reviewing the evidence, the tribunal awarded a total compensation of Rs 46.36 lakh to the petitioner.
