In a shocking incident from Madhya Pradesh’s Rewa district, a one-and-a-half-year old survived being carried for nearly 10 km on the roof of a speeding SUV after a violent road collision. Police are now searching for the Scorpio and its driver, who fled the scene despite seriously injuring the child and his family.

As per an NDTV report, Umesh was travelling by motorcycle with his sister-in-law, Munni Saket, and her one-and-a-half-year-old son, Suraj, on Monday evening in Bahera Dabar village. A fast-approaching Scorpio then rammed into their bike. The impact threw Umesh and Munni onto the road, while Suraj was hurled into the air and landed on the top of the SUV.

Villagers witnessed the horrifying moment as the child lay on the roof while the vehicle accelerated instead of stopping. Several locals immediately took off on motorcycles to chase the SUV, all while alerting the police and informing them about its Uttar Pradesh registration number. Authorities quickly formed multiple teams to track down the vehicle.

According to officials, the occupants of the Scorpio eventually noticed the boy on the roof. After travelling some distance, they reportedly pulled him into the car and later dropped him off at a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC), where he was admitted for treatment. Staff at the CHC informed the police, enabling them to locate the injured child.

Suraj sustained injuries to his head and body and is currently under medical care. His mother and uncle, who were both hurt in the crash, are receiving treatment at the district hospital in Sidhi. Doctors say all three are stable.

DSP Sujit Kumar Kadwe called the incident a “disgrace to humanity”.

A formal case has been registered, and efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the fleeing driver.
