Turkish authorities refute claims of sending weapons to Pakistan

Amid escalating tensions between New Delhi and Pakistan over the recent terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, Turkey on Monday clarified the claims that six planes carrying weapons were sent to Islamabad.

Turkey faced backlash after reports of the country sending arms and ammunition to Pakistan surfaced.

In a statement on X, Turkey’s Directorate of Communications Centre for Countering Disinformation said, “The claims circulating in some media outlets that ‘Türkiye sent six planes full of weapons to Pakistan’ are not true.”

As per the statement, a transport aircraft departing from Turkey made a scheduled landing in Pakistan solely for refuelling purposes, the authorities said.

Amid escalating tensions, Turkey has sought de-escalation between Pakistan and India, President Tayyip Erdogan said on Monday in Ankara, following a cabinet meeting.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
