Two women Navy officers to embark on global expedition

Two Indian Navy women officers will embark on an extraordinary sailing expedition of circumnavigating the globe.

The Indian Navy today said, the two Indian Navy women officers, Lt Cdr Roopa A and Lt Cdr Dilna K, would be embarking on the expedition — Navika Sagar Parikrama-II on board INSV Tarini — shortly. The duo had been preparing themselves for this expedition for the past three years, the Navy said.

They had participated in the trans-oceanic expedition from Goa to Rio de Janeiro via Cape Town and back last year. The two were part of the six-member crew that took part in event.

Later, they undertook a sailing expedition from Goa to Port Blair (Andaman Nicobar Islands) and back. The duo had also done a sailing sortie from Goa to Port Louis, Mauritius, early this year.

“Sagar Parikrama” would be a grueling voyage requiring extreme skills, physical fitness and mental alertness. The officers have been training rigorously and gained thousands of miles of experience under their belt. They are also being trained under the circumnavigator Cdr Abhilash Tomy (retd).

The Indian Navy also unveiled the logo of the expedition.
