UNGA Prez arrives in India, to discuss geopolitical issues

New Delhi, January 22

United Nations General Assembly President Dennis Francis today began a five-day official visit to India, with geopolitical tensions around the world expected to top the agenda during his trip.

Francis will meet External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Wednesday to discuss a wide range of issues, including geopolitical tensions, India’s contribution to the UN, and key global meetings.

After arriving here on Monday, Francis laid a wreath at the Mahatma Gandhi memorial at Rajghat. Francis will give an address to the ICWA on “Peace, Progress, Prosperity, and Sustainability” and another on digital public infrastructure. He will also travel to Jaipur and Mumbai. In Jaipur, he will meet state dignitaries and visit a centre that produces prosthetic limbs. Francis, who comes from Trinidad and Tobago, was elected last year to serve as President of the UN General Assembly’s 78th session, which runs until this September.
