Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has taken a poetic jab at Pakistan after India accused it of violating the ceasefire within hours.

India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire with effect from 5 pm on Saturday after four days of intense military exchanges.  However, India on Saturday night said Pakistan had violated the “understanding and its armed forces responded appropriately”.

In a late-night post on X, Tharoor posted a Hindi couplet, “Uski fitrat hai mukar jaane ki, uske vaade pe yakeen kaise karun (It's his nature to go back on his word, how can I trust his promise).”

Earlier, on the sidelines of his book launch after the ceasefire was announced, the Congress leader said “peace is essential”. “I am very glad. India never wanted a long-term war but wanted to teach terrorists a lesson. I believe that lesson has been taught,” he said.
