The Uttar Pradesh Government will launch a special road safety campaign, ‘No Helmet, No Fuel,’ from Monday. Under this rule, fuel for two-wheelers will be dispensed only to riders wearing helmets. The drive will be organised across the state under the leadership of district magistrates, in coordination with the district road safety committees (DRSC). Officers from the transport, police, revenue and district administration departments will share the main responsibility of the campaign, which will conclude on September 30.

Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath emphasised that the campaign is not intended as a punishment but as a step to promote lawful and safe riding habits. He urged people to follow the message, “First helmet, then fuel”. He also called for public cooperation to make the initiative a success.

UP Transport Commissioner Brajesh Narayan Singh stated that the campaign was wholly in the public interest and would help two-wheeler riders adopt the habit of wearing helmets. He also sought cooperation from oil marketing companies and petrol pump operators, adding that the Food and Civil Supplies Department will ensure coordination and monitoring at fuel stations.

The Petrol Pump Dealers’ Association has also assured the government that it would extend full support for the initiative.

In 2024, Uttar Pradesh recorded over 46,000 road accidents, resulting in 24,118 fatalities and 34,665 injuries, according to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
