A fresh controversy is brewing in the political circles over the line up of speakers for the November 26 Constitution Day event in Parliament’s Sanvidhan Sadan.
The opposition parties, after privately learning that only three speakers have been mentioned in the official schedule for the high profile event, have written to Lok Sabha Speaker asking what about speakers from the opposition side.
In a letter to Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla today top opposition party leaders said they had learnt about three speakers at the historic event -- President Droupadi Murmu, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and prime minister Narendra Modi.
"We believe that in the best traditions of parliament democracy the leaders of opposition in both houses should also be given an opportunity to speak at this historic occasion," a letter signed by 17 opposition leaders said.
These include Congress' Jairam Ramesh, NCP SP's Supriya Sule, AAP's Raghav Chadha, DMK’s TR Baalu, and others.
