116 employees of dissolved Legislative Council shifted

The Jammu and Kashmir Government has transferred 116 employees, including officers of the erstwhile Legislative Council, to different government departments and has also accorded sanction to the constitution of a cell for safekeeping the records of the dissolved body.

The officers and others employees, who previously worked in the Legislative Council Secretariat, have now been moved to several departments, mainly the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs. Some officials have also been moved to the Directorate of Tribal Affairs, Election Department, Public Service Commission and the office of the Advocate General.

The order was issued yesterday by the General Administration Department of the Jammu and Kashmir Government. The Legislative Council was the upper house of the Assembly and was abolished last month as part of the reorganisation of the erstwhile state of Jammu and Kashmir. The council was dissolved as per Section 57 of the J&K Reorganisation Bill, 2019.

The council had come into being in 1957 and had a strength of 36 members.

The order also sanctioned constitution of a cell in the Department of Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs for handing over and keeping the record of the erstwhile the Legislative Council. The cell has also been tasked with processing the pension papers of former legislators of the erstwhile council, the copy of the order stated. It also clarified that the transfer of officers and other employees was temporary and the deployed officials and employees will have no claim to their permanent absorption in the designate departments.

The salary of the transferred officers and employees will be drawn by the General Administration Department on production of monthly attendance certificates.
