Two Lashkar-e-Toiba militants were killed in an overnight gunfight in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, police said.

The gunfight erupted at Sirhama area of Bijbehara on Thursday evening when police, Army and the CRPF launched a cordon and search operation on getting specific information about the presence of two to three militants in the area.

“As security forces approached the spot, the hiding militants fired upon them, which was retaliated, triggering a gun battle. The exchange of gunfire continued during the night. In the operation so far, two militants of Lashkar have been killed,” a police officer said, adding that the search operation is still under way.
