2 women OGWs detained under PSA in Udhampur

In a significant success for the J&K Police, two women Over Ground Workers (OGWs) allegedly providing logistical support to highly trained terrorists hiding in forest areas have been detained from Basantgarh area of Udhampur district.

The two women, detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), were identified as Maryama Begum, a resident of Loudhara in Basantgarh, and Arshad Begum, a resident of Rai Chak in Basantgarh. Their detention follows intelligence inputs from other arrested OGWs, revealing their active involvement in assisting ultras, including Pakistani terrorists who infiltrated into Indian territory after crossing the border.

This detention is part of a broader crackdown by the J&K Police on terror associates, initiated after Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha directed security forces and intelligence agencies to disrupt logistical support networks for foreign terrorists hiding in the forests of the Jammu region.

A senior police official stated, “These terror associates were found to be involved in providing logistical support to terrorist groups and acting as guides and facilitators for these organisations. Their activities posed a significant threat to public safety and state security. To prevent further criminal activities detrimental to the state’s security, both women were detained under the PSA.”

The Basantgarh area lies along a traditional infiltration route used by Pakistani terrorists entering from the International Border in Kathua district. These terrorists often hide in forest areas before moving to the mountainous Doda and Kishtwar districts. In recent months, several attacks and ambushes on security forces in Doda and Kishtwar suggest the infiltration of multiple terrorist groups.

Terror organizations have reportedly established a robust OGW network in Basantgarh to facilitate these infiltrations. ADGP Anand Jain stated that further operations are planned to target any remaining elements attempting to disrupt peace in the region.
