After four days, authorities restored 2G Internet service in Srinagar on Friday. The service was snapped minutes before a counter insurgency operation was launched in the city on May 19 in which two Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed.

Junaid Sehrai and his associate were killed in the encounter and 15 residential houses were severely damaged.

A teenage boy was also killed after he came under the rubble of one of the collapsed houses.

Decision to restore 2G Internet service has come at a time when the Supreme Court has said no to high-speed 4G Internet for J&K as of now.

“2G internet service has been restored in Srinagar from today evening,” a senior official told The Tribune.
