3 youth from south Kashmir prevented from joining militant ranks

Srinagar, June 6

The J&K police, on Saturday, said three youth were prevented from joining militant ranks in south Kashmir’s Awantipopra sub-district.

The police said the trio had come into contact with militants with the help of two over-ground workers of the Lashkar-e-Toiba and the Hizbul Mujahideen who, were motivating youth to join the militant ranks.

“The police received information that some youth of Tral area, who had been influenced and motivated by a false narrative, were about to join the terrorist ranks. Acting swiftly, the Awantipora Police, along with the security forces, prevented these youth from joining terrorist ranks,” a police spokesman said.

They have been identified as Illyas Amin Waini, Abrar Ahmad Reshi — both residents of Mandoora Tral, and Ubaid Ahmad Shah, a resident of Shaldraman Tral.

“The trio was taken to Tral police station where they were properly counselled in the presence of their family members and after which, they were handed over to their parents,” he said.

During the course of the investigation, the police said the two militant associates identified as Rizwan Ahmad Wani and Rayees Ahmad Chopan, both residents of Mandoora Tral, were also arrested.

“Besides motivating the youth for joining the terrorist ranks, they were found to be involved in providing logistics, shelter and other kind of support to proscribed terrorist organisations operating in the areas of Panner, Mandoor, Chankitrar, Ratsuna Tral,” he said.
