Demchok village on the Indo-China border area is among the 54 villages in the Ladakh region which will get mobile phone connection.

Fifty four villages in the Ladakh region, which include 19 in Kargil, 11 in Zanskar and seven in Nobra, will get the Jio mobile service under the Universal Service Obligation Funding (USOF) scheme. Some remote villages such as Yulchung, Neyraks, Linshed, Photoksar, which remains cut off for six months from Leh during the winters, will get the mobile service before winter. Mobile towers will work through the satellite connection not requiring optical fibre cable connection and are expected to function within a few months. Similarly, Leh will get 17 mobile towers.
